LING. Ce qui, dans un énoncé, correspond à l'information relative au thème de cet énoncé. Synon. vieilli prédicat psychologique. Dans le dialogue suivant:— Quelqu'un ici sait l'espagnol? — Paul sait l'espagnol. la prononciation du nom Paul sur un ton plus haut que sait l'espagnol marque qu'il est le thème, et la suite le rhème (Inform. gramm., oct. 1983, n ° 19, p. 23).
Prononc.:[]. Étymol. et Hist. 1933 (MAR. Lex.). Empr. au gr. « tout ce qu'on dit, mot, parole ».
